24 Apr Precision Under Pressure: Nespresso’s new Sylvia Park boutique
When Nespresso decided to upgrade their customer-favourite location at Sylvia Park shopping centre to their Gen 4 design, they needed a partner who could move quickly. With only two weeks to complete the revamp before the Christmas rush, this project required expert, hyper-efficient support.
After a competitive tender process, Datum landed the job – not just because it was the most competitive of the three applications, but also thanks to their long track record of delivering quality quickly. For Michael Williams from McCredie Group, who managed the project, the choice was clear.
“I have a lot of faith in Datum. They’ve delivered for me in the past, even in difficult timeframes. I knew we could put our confidence in Datum, and was glad to recommend them to the client.”
The first challenge: A temporary store set up
With the boutique upgrade about to begin, Nespresso needed a temporary retail presence in the shopping centre while the primary location would shut for the fit-out. Datum stepped up, repurposing existing joinery left behind by a previous tenant in a downstairs stall, rapidly setting up a secure temporary solution for the brand. This meant that Newspresso customers wouldn’t be disappointed – the brand could continue trading throughout the fit-out project.
The second challenge: Managing timelines
Datum focused on delivering top workmanship for blast format tiles, cladding, and polished plaster at a high quality finish.
Because of the massive customer influx during the December period, Sylvia Park had a construction blackout date in the middle of the month, just weeks away from the start of the fit-out project. Datum’s project manager, Dan, was able to help Nespresso negotiate a slight extension with the shopping centre, ensuring that they wouldn’t have to wait until the new year to finish up the project.
“Dan did an incredible job coordinating everything under immense time pressure. Datum made it all possible in such a short turnaround.”
Well before the end of December, the boutique was fully operational, looking great, and ready to serve the public before the biggest week of the year.
All told, it “ran like clockwork”
As Michael reflected, every fit-out project will inevitably run into some kind of challenge – but how they are responded to makes all the difference. In this case, the tight timeframe and delay of supplies threw a slight curve ball to the teams involved. Datum, as he predicted, handled it extremely well – helping support solutions, keeping up extremely prompt and clear communication, and making the project feel seamless.
“Everything was completed without too much drama or errors,” said Michael. “Given that this was the first significant project with Datum, it was great to see Nespresso notice the Datum difference.”
